Kai is Takato's cousin. He appeared in the movie Battle of Adventurers and the episode D-Reaper's Feast.

When Takato was traveling to the island in Okinawa for vacation, Kai inadvertently interrupted a V Pet commercial with Mr. Tamashiro, asking where Takato was. After Takato arrived, cops tried to arrest them but they were saved by Tamashiro.
While taking a boat to the island, Kai jumped into the water to swim the rest of the way, and later found Takato collapsed with Guilmon trying to haul the suitcaes. Kai became friends with Guilmon, and later traveled with him, Takato, and Seasarmon to rescue Minami from Mephistomon's base, and witnessed the battle with Mephistomon.
He also appeared alongside Takato during the week in which the tamers were unable to fight the D-Reaper.
